The Medical Experience Academy or MedEx Academy is a one-of-a-kind program developed to create more interest among young people in pursuing careers in health care. Students accepted into the academy have the unique opportunity to explore health care through simulations, lectures, workshops, research and community service.
During MedEx Academy’s inaugural year in 2010, 12 students from two local public schools participated in the program’s one tier. In 2016, MedEx Academy celebrated its sixth year by offering four tiers to more than 170 students from 46 high schools and 45 colleges and universities from across the region. This growth is helping the program fulfill its goal of making health professions accessible to students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
