Why I chose Greenville: I had the pleasure of spending my clinical years of medical school at the Greenville Health System. It was here that I was, first, drawn to Internal Medicine (IM) as a profession. Internal Medicine was my first clinical rotation and it was the friendly, compassionate, and driven nature of everyone I interacted with in the IM department that first drew me to consider IM. Even as a student, it was clear to me that the program valued its residents highly and was committed to their learning and personal development. When choosing a residency, I could not have thought of a better program in which to continue my clinical learning. The fact that GHS is located in the beautiful and up-and-coming city of Greenville, which is so close to my family, makes it all the more appealing. I look forward to the next few years in the GHS Internal Medicine Program.
Why I chose Greenville: Choosing GHS was one of the easiest decisions I have had to make. During my interview, I learned very quickly that Greenville was a place where I could achieve my career goals and would also be a place where my family would thrive. Many of the residents I met on interview day also had a family and spoke highly of both the program and Greenville, particularly their reputation for being a family-friendly environment. I also looked for a program where the residents and faculty seemed to be genuinely happy with their jobs. Everybody I met during my time at GHS was overly hospitable and more than willing to answer any questions I had. Additionally, Dr. Fuller seemed to have a genuine concern for the well-being of his residents and went to great lengths to make sure we felt welcomed and comfortable during our interview. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I could not pass up the opportunity to work in a hospital that has a Chic-fil-A!
Why I chose Greenville: After spending two years in nearby Spartanburg for medical school, I was familiar with how great of a city Greenville is. My fiancée and I would frequently spend time exploring downtown and hiking in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. We instantly fell in love with the city. As I began to compile my list of potential residency programs, I knew GHS would be a top choice. During the interview process, I was immediately impressed with the knowledge and skill of the residents and the devotion the faculty puts into fostering a positive learning environment for all residents. After meeting with the Program Director and learning how the program operates, I knew my transition from medical school to resident physician would be smooth. Furthermore, I knew that I would receive quality training that would allow me to be a successful physician in any environment or continue on to fellowship training if desired. When I learned of my match to GHS I was very excited to be joining the GHS family and begin my journey as an Internal Medicine resident. I cannot wait to see what the future holds and look forward to working with all of the physicians at GHS.
Why I chose Greenville: I was told early in the interview process to keep an open mind, and I really did try! It was very hard to compare programs, especially, when the one you love has a stellar faculty, phenomenal teaching opportunities, and a warm hearted atmosphere. When I had the choice to stay or leave, I chose to stay; nothing I encountered was able to compete at the same level of those three important factors that GHS possessed.
Outside of the hospital, Greenville is an amazing city. Wonderful downtown, live music every week, festivals, great food with a variety restaurants, vibrant running trails, mountains, and lakes… Greenville is a wonderful place to call home. I’m very blessed to spend three more years here.
Why I chose Greenville: In looking for a residency program, I wanted to be somewhere that 1) was dedicated to investing in me to help me develop into the best physician I can be, 2) had an encouraging, collegial, friendly atmosphere, 3) was small enough that I wouldn’t feel lost in the crowd, and 4) was not too far from my family. On my interview day I was impressed with the Program Director’s presentation about the educational philosophy of the program as well as the testimony the current residents gave about the quality of the teaching. I saw for myself the collegial atmosphere among faculty and residents and the close-knit feel the residents enjoy because of the program’s size. Greenville is within easy driving distance to my family, and as my wife and I love hiking and being in nature, the fact that Greenville is less than an hour away from mountains is an added bonus. In short, Greenville has what I was looking for in a residency program and more, and I am excited for what the next three years holds.
Why I chose Greenville: When I started looking into residency programs, the amount of information and possibilities was overwhelming! After much research and a lot of interviewing, I was most confident in choosing Greenville Health System for my residency program. GHS offers innovative learning techniques and a friendly environment. During my interview, I had the opportunity to meet many residents and many faculty members, all of whom were exceedingly hospitable. More importantly, they all seemed genuinely happy to be there! Greenville, itself, is a bonus. The city is beautiful, and I am excited to be living in a new place with so many things to do!
Why I chose Greenville: The GHS Internal Medicine program was an easy choice for me! I was searching for a program that was academic in their teaching and practices, but still had a small, friendly atmosphere. GHS has all the benefits and opportunities of a large, academic center, but with the intimacy focused on treating people as people and not numbers. I knew I would feel at home and get an outstanding education at this program. In addition, the city of Greenville is truly like no other. The nearby mountains, a few short hours to the beach, the walkable downtown and all the green space in Greenville makes this an ideal location to live. And possibly most important of all for a foodie like me, the restaurant scene here is to die for! (Sweet potato cake, anyone?) I’m overjoyed to be here, in Greenville, to both learn and live!
Why I chose Greenville: I chose Greenville Health System for my Internal Medicine residency because I felt that the program would provide me with the best opportunity to become a competent and knowledgeable physician. From the Program Director’s presentation, I believe that the program takes a great interest in its residents and ensures that they receive the best education possible. Most importantly, I loved the fact that the residents were so friendly and that they seemed genuinely happy to be at GHS. Unlike other interviews, where I only met one or two residents, I was able to speak to a number of people, all of whom had nothing but great things to say about the program.
Why I chose Greenville: I was looking for the best medium-sized program in a medium-sized city in the southeast. I knew that GHS would be my top choice as I was driving away from the interview. The residents were incredibly welcoming and were genuinely proud of their program. They simply seemed like the happiest group that I saw on the interview trial and were enthusiastic about their work. The faculty stresses the importance of tailoring each individual resident’s education to their own needs and goals. Also, as someone who is currently undecided on hospitalist vs. primary care, I appreciate the protected ambulatory training time. Lastly, I have family in Greenville and am aware of how awesome of a city it is. It is affordable and safe with a beautiful downtown and plenty of great hiking trails for my wife and beagles to explore.
Why I chose Greenville: I chose the Greenville Internal Medicine Residency Program because it is a smaller internal medicine program with a great reputation where I could learn in an enjoyable, personal environment for the next three years. I meshed well with the residents and faculty on interview day and could easily see myself working in the hospital in the future. When I realized how wonderful a city Greenville was and how close it was to my home state of North Carolina the choice of where to go to residency became much easier.
Why I chose Greenville: The internal medicine residency program at GHS is a perfect fit for my interests. I was looking for a program small enough to have a family feel among the residents, yet large enough to provide a wide range of training opportunities. In addition to the strengths of the residency program, my wife and I also felt drawn to the city of Greenville. There is so much to do in this area and we believe it will be a great place for our family to grow.
Why I chose Greenville: I love Greenville! Having lived in the upstate of South Carolina the last 8 years, Converse College for my undergraduate studies and USC School of Medicine Greenville for medical school, I am ecstatic that I get to stay here for residency. Simply put, I love Greenville and the people here so much that I didn’t want to leave. As a medical student rotating at GHS, I felt the educationally challenging environment with friendship relationships was the ideal place for me. My husband and I enjoy the cleanliness and friendly spirit of downtown, the many new restaurants, the location so close to the mountains, and how this vibrant community offers something fun to do almost every day of the week. Personally, I am interested in community medicine and could not imagine a better geographic nor hospital community in which to train.
