Internal Medicine Residency
LIFE LONG LEARNING
One of the unique features and major assets of our program is the close relationship that our faculty builds with residents. The size of our program is ideal for extensive interaction between faculty and residents. We are proud of the collegial atmosphere in our program, an atmosphere born of mutual respect between residents and attending physicians. Yet, in our mentoring of residents, we strive to create an appropriate balance between providing supervision and granting the residents independence in patient care. We consider our residents fully practicing physicians and, consequently, expect them to be committed both to providing the best care and to learning all they can.
Our objectives are:
- To prepare residents to be competent, well-rounded, compassionate internists who are equipped to provide excellent patient care or to enter fellowship training.
- To stimulate lifelong learning and to provide training in performance and application of sophisticated procedures and advanced technologies.
- To provide residents with the background skills necessary for successful practice in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment with training in medical ethics, the business of medicine, and professionalism.
The Greenville Health System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program is a three-year training program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. Find out more about the Internal Residency Program at GHS.

My self-consciousness resolved (almost) immediately upon meeting my residents and interns. Read More
