Thank you for your time and interest in the Greenville Health System (GHS) Family Medicine program. We are a growing program with many exciting opportunities available to residents.
At GHS, our priorities revolve around patient care, education, and resident wellness. We are continually working to maximize our potential in all of these areas by looking for innovative approaches in a challenging healthcare world.
As residents, the opportunity to provide the highest quality patient care brought us to GHS. We take a wholistic approach and recognize that many factors contribute to the health and well being of our patients. By regularly assessing that the medicine we practice is current and evidence based, residents learn to feel confident in their medical diagnosis and decision making skills. On top of that, GHS has proven a commitment to research. Throughout their education, residents have the chance to participate in research studies and truly feel that they belong at the forefront of medicine.
The challenge to acquire all the knowledge a family physician needs to practice medicine is daunting. Thankfully, GHS has committed to helping our family medicine residents achieve it, throughout our health system and within the family medicine program itself. Whether it’s working one on one with pulmonary critical care attendings or with fellows at the Steadman Hawkins Institute for Sports Medicine, residents know we are being trained by physicians with expertise in their fields. We encourage residents to take the lead in their own learning by spending time at the simulation center or participating in daily noon conference lectures. It emphasizes the notion that learning is best done through practice and teaching. This opportunity has been more and more relevant as the South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville continues to take off. Family medicine residents have the privilege of being on the front lines in shaping the future leaders of medicine with teaching opportunities on our inpatient and outpatient family medicine services as well as at the school itself.
With all the stresses that come with any residency training program, we recognize ensuring resident wellness is vital in providing compassionate high quality patient care and a commitment to education. The ability to “charge our batteries” on a beautiful mountain hike or a short drive to the beach make Greenville an ideal choice for any active person. Combined with countless volunteer opportunities, an ever expanding culinary/night life scene, and very friendly people, our residents feel encouraged to learn about themselves in a setting outside of medicine.
Again, thank you for taking the time to learn about GHS and Greenville. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or would like to learn more about whether or not you feel GHS Family Medicine is the right fit for you.
