Leadership and guidance of GHS Clinical University is provided by a number of councils and committees.
GHS CEO Executive Council
The GHS CEO Executive Council establishes and oversees all system-level strategic issues. The council is led by GHS’ chief executive officer and comprised of his/her direct reports and the vice president of community and governmental affairs.
GHS Clinical University Executive Committee
The Executive Committee establishes and oversees the strategic direction of education and workforce development as well as research and scholarship programs at GHS. Led by the GHS Clinical University president, the committee is comprised of senior leadership from GHS and primary academic partners, serving as the decision-making body for academic programs and initiatives aligned with the vision and mission of the GHS Clinical University. Additionally, the committee ensures alignment of the GHS Clinical University with the GHS clinical enterprise and academic partners.
The Academic Council is a forum of physician leadership providing a clinical perspective and input into academic descisions. It is responsible for the Clinical Learning Environment, including six specific areas: patient safety, duty hours of faculty and trainees, handoffs, quality improvement, supervision of its trainees and professionalism. Chaired by the president of GHS Clinical University, the council also serves as the academic council for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Academic Advisory Committee
The Academic Advisory Committee is responsible for the strategic planning and coordination of all academic programs related to GHS Clinical University. Additionally, the committee oversees the implementation of interprofessional educational opportunities identified by the Academic Council. The committee is chaired by the GHS vice president for Academic and Faculty Affairs.
Scientific Advisory Committee
The Scientific Advisory Committee monitors all original research for GHS Clinical University and oversees the registration and administration of research projects. Chaired by the GHS chief science officer, the committee also facilitates synergistic partnerships with academic research institutions.
